James Price Obituary

Mr. James L. Price was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Gus & Mary Margaret Price on July 3, 1938. He attended Birmingham city schools, graduating from A.H. Parker High School. Then continuing his education in photography and electrical Engineering. On September 30, 1956 he married his forever love, Susie B. Price. A date neither of them ever focused on, agreeing that they had been married, “All of Our Lives”. Together they raised three daughters, Judy, Carolyn & Pamela and one son, James V, and as the neighborhood, family, and friends would all agree, anyone else that needed them including siblings, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. After graduating James dedicated his professional life to “Mamma Bell” building a 35 year career at South Central Bell (Bell South) in Birmingham, AL and to Entrepreneurship. James used his education and knack for business to establish one of the first black owned TV & Radio repair shops in Birmingham, Alabama and later, Artistic Images photography Studio and Beauty Salon.  He dedicated the entirety of his life to God, serving as a Charter member and many years as a deacon at Community Primitive Baptist Church.

James was the father and leader that everyone needed. Stepping up and stepping in to love, support, and guide any and everyone within his circle of love. There were a few things that you could be sure of about Mr. Price, Junior, Daddy, GDaddy, Uncle James or whatever name you chose to call him, he either had the answers or you sure would believe he did, and he was going to have a camera in his hands. James had a way of making you feel safe and secure. You knew if you brought a problem to him, he was going to handle it, and most likely handle you too. His love for God, his family, and his community was never in question. He was going to be the first one up and out the door handling business and the last one up at night reading and studying the word, or preparing for tomorrow’s business, but he ALWAYS had time for those he loved. He bounced every grandkid on his knee. Attended countless plays, recitals, graduations, and celebrations. James loved being outside and moving, so he was the first choice when you needed a chauffeur or when you locked your keys in your car. He built his legacy around the importance of family. Instilling in his kids and grandkids love of God, love of Family, and a spirit of leadership and entrepreneurial creation. He loved big and made sure that everyone around him had no doubts about it.

James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susie B, his mother, Mary Margaret Williams Price, his father, Gus Price, and his brother David Price. Left to cherish his memories; his four children, Judy, Carolyn, James (Patricia), and Pamela; his siblings, Willie D (Tina), Phil, and Marylena; Sixteen grandkids; Twenty-four great-grandkids; Two great-great-grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
