Joyce Smith Obituary

Joyce J. Galloway-Smith, was born on August 29, 1935 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Jesse Eugene and Carrie Pearl Jones.  She was the second of three born to this union.  She professed her belief and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 12 and united with Saint John Baptist  Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.  Joyce received her elementary education at Lowrance Industrial School and was a 1953 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.  In 1964 she moved her church membership to Mount Olive Baptist Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma where she served on the usher board, sang in the choir, belonged to the Mission Circle, and served as secretary on the finance board for over 30 years.  She remained a faithful servant until her health began to fail.

Joyce married her childhood sweetheart Freddie J. Galloway and to this union five children were born.  In February of 1990 she married Charles W. Smith and remained his faithful wife until his demise in October of 2008.  She worked at Barlett Memorial Hospital for many years in the Medical Records Division, before accepting a job with OG&E where she worked for over 19 years until her first retirement.  After retirement, Joyce went to work temporarily at Sapulpa Headstart as the primary cook and remained in that position for 16 years until her second retirement. She was a member of The Queen Bathsheba Grand Chapter O.E.S. Oklahoma Grand Jurisdiction as well as a member of the NAACP and many other note worthy organizations.

On March 24, 2021, she submitted to God’s will and answered His call from labor to reward.
