Mother Mary Edmond was born to the late Mary Brewer and Joe Albert Phillips on May 10, 1929 in Selma, Alabama. She was educated and graduated from RE B. Hudson High School in Selma, Alabama. She later moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she met and married the late James F. Edmond and from that union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Hendon; brothers, James Calvin Woodard and Rickey Phillips; and daughter-in-law, Minnie R. Phillips.
Ms. Mary served on the Usher Board, as a choir member and the Mother of Community Primitive Baptist Church for forty years. She worked many jobs: Princeton Hospital, Birmingham Southern College and as a caregiver to many. She was loved by all. Her favorite pastimes were drinking coffee, eating sweet rolls and loving her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Earnest Phillips, Clark Edmond (Caren), Kenneth Edmond; twelve grandchildren, Latonia Phillips, Denisha Hendon, Sonja (Timothy) Mills, Antonio Hendon Sr, Wendy (Kevin) Walker, Tycie (Timothy) Jeffery, Erica (Devin Sr), Kesha (Whoodie) Townsend, Malekia Hendon Alexis Caldwell, Cal Sr, Lauren Caldwell; thirty-eight great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren; sister-inlaw, Beyniece Sanders and family; brothers, Joe A. Phillips, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and George Phillips of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Vanessa Phillips of Columbus, Ohio and May Pope of Cleveland, Ohio; also, dear to her heart were Carol Chesnutt and Debbie Sema.
