Mildred (Hutchison) Matthews

Mildred Hutchinson Matthews peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Birmingham, Alabama.

Mildred was a beautiful, spirited person. She was a great mother to her children, and a great sister and aunt. She brought laughter to those around her.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Matthews, Sr.; her son, Tony; her parents, Milton Croom and Annie Pearl Alexander Richardson; stepfather, James Alexander; and a sister, Melanie Croom. She will be deeply missed by her children, Larry and Jennifer Matthews; siblings, Emma (James) Jones of Philadelphia, Mississippi, Chester (Deborah) Harrison, III of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pamela (Theodore) Noble and Karla (Reginald) Ward, both of San Antonio, Texas, and Trina Croom of Birmingham, Alabama; an uncle, James Croom of Midfield, Alabama; sister-in-law and caregiver who loved her dearly, Ms. Geneva Long; a special niece, Zhoria Long; sister-in-law, Lois Matthews of Birmingham, Alabama, Barbara Cameron of Dora, Alabama, Edward of Sumiton, Robert (Tameka) Cameron of Hoover, Alabama.

Mildred went to school at Seratand Elementary School and was a graduate of Phillips High School. She worked at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham News, Riteway Cleaning and Princeton Hospital.
